Software BIOS/BMC Engineer (Datacenter Platform)
Role Summary
Firmware developer on the Datacenter Platform Engineering group responsible for designing, implementing, and testing BMC and security firmware for DCGPU server products. The role involves close collaboration with ODM/OEM/customers, hardware engineers, validation teams, and other firmware engineers to deliver reliable, secure, and manageable server firmware.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). Typical experience for this role is approximately 3–7 years in embedded firmware or related engineering roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, integration, validation, and support of BMC and security firmware for server platforms.
- Develop, debug, and test BMC/BIOS and security firmware for server rack platforms in coordination with ODMs/OEMs and customers.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, validation, and customer-facing teams to ensure correct integration and delivery.
- Optimize firmware for performance, reliability, and security.
- Investigate and resolve firmware issues using debugging tools and cross-team collaboration.
- Create and maintain firmware documentation: specifications, design documents, and release notes.
- Work with validation teams to develop test plans and execute thorough firmware testing.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining coding standards and quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience necessary to perform the role; preferred items are listed separately.
- Industry experience in embedded firmware development.
- Proven proficiency in C programming.
- Familiarity with computer architecture concepts relevant to firmware development.
- Experience with source control systems (Git, Perforce).
- Proficient in scripting (Python, Bash).
- Experience using hardware debug tools (logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG debuggers).
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and methodical problem-solving ability.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience with OpenBMC or general BMC platform knowledge.
- Security firmware concepts such as Secure Boot, Attestation, and Secure Firmware Update.
- Familiarity with buses and interfaces: I3C, I2C, USB.
- Experience with management protocols like Redfish and PLDM.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
