Job Title

SoC Systems Performance Engineer, Senior Staff

Role Summary

Senior systems engineer focused on performance analysis and architecture for Qualcomm SoC products across mobile, automotive, and compute domains. The role partners with hardware, software, product, and marketing teams to define and validate system-level performance, power, and thermal tradeoffs.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Minimum 5+ years of systems engineering or related work experience is required; 7+ years is preferred.

Responsibilities

The engineer will drive performance studies, define system requirements, and recommend architectural changes based on quantitative analysis.

  • Lead and conduct system-level performance and systems studies.
  • Analyze performance, power, and thermal tradeoffs to inform SoC architecture plans.
  • Define complex use cases and workloads (e.g., gaming, AI) and derive systems requirements.
  • Deploy and use simulators, profilers, and hardware to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Collaborate with HW and SW teams to tune CPU, GPU, DSP, memory, and interconnect subsystems.
  • Apply computer architecture knowledge (CPUs, GPUs, DSPs, cache coherency, virtual memory, MMUs).
  • Document and communicate experimental results and recommendations to technical leads and peers.
  • Develop technical solutions and contribute inventions/patents where applicable.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills. Preferred items noted separately.

  • 5+ years of systems engineering or related work experience.
  • Practical experience with computer architecture concepts and SoC development for product platforms.
  • Familiarity with OS principles and HW/SW interaction.
  • Experience with SoC buses, interconnects, memory technologies, memory controllers, scheduling, and MMUs.
  • Hands-on use and modification of simulators and performance/power models, especially full-system models (SystemC and event-driven simulators useful).
  • Experience using code and system profiling tools to diagnose performance issues.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and pragmatic scripting/automation skills.
  • Familiarity with ARM architecture and Linux environments.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Nice-to-have: VLSI design/verification experience and familiarity with multimedia/communication technologies (audio/video codecs, camera, WLAN, LTE/5G).
  • Preferred: 7+ years of systems engineering experience.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field. Preferred: MS or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
