Role Summary

The SoC Security Architect defines and implements security architectures for system-on-chip products, covering root of trust, secure boot, key management, confidential compute, secure manufacturing, and device lifecycle management. The role works across hardware, firmware and software teams to produce threat models, security requirements, and design guidelines that ensure authenticity, isolation and confidentiality of critical assets.

Position reports into the Hardware Engineering team in Toronto and collaborates with multi-national product and platform teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Specific years of experience are not stated but the role expects demonstrated senior expertise in SoC or platform security and leadership in security architecture.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Define and architect SoC security solutions: root of trust, secure boot, key management, attestation, update/recovery, secure manufacturing, and device lifetime management.
• Design access control and privilege-management mechanisms for confidential compute and secure media pipelines.
• Perform threat modeling and security risk assessments for hardware and firmware components.
• Specify software and hardware security requirements, interfaces, and integration points.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine security design guidelines and influence the security roadmap.
• Analyze side-channel and fault-injection threats and recommend resistance countermeasures.
• Support certification and compliance activities as required.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Strong applied cryptography knowledge including key derivation and management, cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
• Proven experience with secure boot, secure manufacturing, attestation protocols, and confidential compute technologies.
• Experience analyzing hardware and firmware threats (SPA, DPA, fault injection, DRM) and designing countermeasures.
• Background in secure system architecture for ARM or x86 SoCs, including isolation, virtualization, memory safety, and control-flow integrity.
• Platform security expertise across operating environments (Android, Windows, IoT) covering application, framework, kernel and hardware interactions.
• Evidence of technical leadership, roadmap planning, and leading multi-national security teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with security certification processes, formal threat models, or hardware security modules.
• Familiarity with secure media pipelines and content protection access control.
