SoC Physical Design Engineer, Senior Staff
Role Summary
The Senior Staff SoC Physical Design Engineer designs, optimizes, verifies and brings up complex SoC/hardware systems. The role works within Qualcomm's Hardware Engineering group and collaborates with design, verification, validation, software and systems teams to meet power, performance, area and yield targets for advanced products.
Experience Level
Senior. Experience guidance in the posting: Bachelor's +6 years, Master's +5 years, PhD +4 years. Preferred candidates may have 12+ years of hardware engineering experience and prior technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Lead technical activities for physical design, verification, and manufacturing readiness of advanced SoC hardware.
- Plan, optimize, verify and test complex electronic systems, circuits, and SoC-level designs.
- Implement and improve advanced design rules, processes and PPA-driven implementations.
- Perform complex simulations and analyses and drive designs to meet power, performance and area targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new requirements and production test solutions to improve yield and quality.
- Evaluate and develop manufacturing and reliability solutions for leading-edge processes and product bring-up.
- Provide technical guidance and review documentation for engineering teams.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required or strongly desired (degree details are in Education Requirements below).
- Must-have: Several years of practical hardware engineering experience in SoC or electronic hardware design, verification, bring-up and test.
- Proven ability to perform circuit/logic design validation and complex simulations and analyses.
- Hands-on experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools and with hardware measurement instruments (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools).
- Experience optimizing designs for power, performance, area and yield in advanced processes.
- Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills; ability to produce and review detailed technical documentation.
- Nice-to-have: Prior technical leadership or mentoring experience and experience developing manufacturing/test solutions for advanced process nodes.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field plus 6+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in those fields plus 5+ years; OR a PhD plus 4+ years. Preferred: Master's degree and 12+ years of hardware engineering or related experience. Fields cited: Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related technical fields.
