SoC Physical Design Engineer, Senior Lead - HM PD team
QualcommJob Title
SoC Physical Design Engineer, Senior Lead - HM PD team
Role Summary
Lead physical-design activities for complex SoC subsystems, drive place-and-route and sign-off convergence, and deliver PPA targets. Work with cross-functional teams to integrate IP, implement low-power strategies, and improve automation in the physical-design flow.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 6+ years of hands-on physical design or hardware engineering experience (role expects experienced individual capable of leading subsystem efforts and small teams).
Responsibilities
The role focuses on technical leadership and delivery of physical implementation for SoC subsystems.
- Lead and manage physical design for complex subsystems and small teams.
- Drive synthesis, place-and-route (PnR), static timing analysis (STA), and sign-off convergence.
- Ensure performance, power, and area (PPA) targets are met across designs.
- Integrate IP and manage subsystem-level integration and ECOs.
- Implement low-power techniques including UPF, multi-voltage domains, and power gating.
- Develop and drive automation to improve PPA and flow efficiency.
- Collaborate with circuit designers, backend teams, and verification to resolve physical-implementation issues.
Requirements
Key technical and leadership requirements. Degree information is summarized under Education Requirements below.
- 6+ years of practical experience in physical design, place-and-route, and sign-off for SoC or complex subsystems.
- Proven experience with synthesis, PnR flows, STA, and sign-off optimizations.
- Experience meeting demanding PPA requirements and performing IP integration at subsystem level.
- Hands-on experience with low-power implementation (UPF, multiple voltage domains, power gating).
- Familiarity with ASIC physical-design flows, methodologies, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.
- Understanding of circuit design, device physics, and issues in advanced process nodes; experience across multiple technology nodes preferred.
- Ability to develop or drive automation and scripting to improve flow throughput and PPA results.
- Experience managing complex technical efforts and mentoring team members.
- Nice-to-have: prior work on advanced process nodes and experience tuning flows for manufacturing/TO concerns.
Education Requirements
Degree expectations in source posting: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field. The posting specifies experience guidance tied to degree level (example: Bachelor's +6+ years; Master's +5+ years; PhD +4+ years). Equivalent relevant work experience is considered where applicable.
