Job Title

SoC Performance Verification Engineer - Senior

Role Summary

Join Microsoft SCHIE's Compute Silicon and Manufacturing Engineering team to lead performance verification for server SoC programs. The role focuses on defining and executing performance verification strategy, correlating silicon and architectural metrics, and improving verification methodology to ensure production-quality cloud hardware.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 6+ years of relevant SoC/architecture/verification experience, though acceptable experience may vary depending on degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities for this role include ownership of performance verification efforts and cross-functional collaboration to improve SoC performance outcomes.

  • Define and own performance verification strategy, test plans, requirements, environments, tools, and methodology for current and future programs.
  • Work with performance, IP, and SoC architects to identify and correlate key performance indicators and metrics.
  • Understand SoC architecture and performance-critical datapaths and configurations to target verification effectively.
  • Create performance tests and debug correlation mismatches to determine root cause and recommend fixes.
  • Develop tests for emulation/accelerated platforms and integrate accelerated VIP content.
  • Engage partners to improve design, verification collateral, and methodology to find bugs earlier and more reliably.
  • Mentor and coach team members and collaborate across architects, logic designers, validators, IP providers, and tool vendors.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, security needs, and other role requirements.

  • Proven experience in SoC performance verification and verification methodology.
  • Solid understanding of SoC architecture, performance-critical datapaths, and verification correlation techniques.
  • Experience with industry-standard HDLs and verification methodologies (e.g., SystemVerilog, UVM).
  • Experience developing tests targeting emulation platforms and writing test content in C/C++.
  • Strong debugging skills to analyze performance mismatches and recommend mitigations.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, communication, and mentorship skills within cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other security screening requirements; role requires verification of citizenship or lawful residency for export-control access.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~25% as required.

Education Requirements

Degree or equivalent experience required. Accepted combinations include: Doctorate (EE/CE/CS or related) + 1+ year technical experience; Master’s (EE/CE/CS or related) + 4+ years technical experience; Bachelor’s (EE/CE/CS or related) + 5+ years technical experience; or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
