SoC DFT Lead, Director
QualcommJob Title
SoC DFT Lead, Director
Role Summary
Lead design-for-test (DFT) strategy and execution for complex system-on-chip (SoC) projects, ensuring robust test coverage and manufacturable silicon. The role partners with design, verification, and physical implementation teams and provides technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 8+ years (Bachelor), 7+ years (Master), or 6+ years (PhD) of relevant hardware engineering experience; many candidates have 15+ years and prior technical leadership experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities focus on test strategy, cross-team integration, and team leadership.
- Define and drive DFT strategy and implementation for complex SoCs.
- Develop architecture and methodology for scan, built-in self-test (BIST), and boundary scan.
- Collaborate with RTL design, verification, and physical implementation teams to meet testability and quality targets.
- Perform test coverage analysis and optimize test plans to improve silicon quality and yield.
- Mentor and guide engineers; promote best practices and continuous improvement.
- Make technical decisions that impact program and product success; influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Manage resources and work within prescribed budgetary objectives where applicable.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.
- Must-have: Proven experience leading DFT strategy and implementation for complex SoCs (scan insertion, ATPG, MBIST, LBIST, JTAG).
- Must-have: Hands-on with industry DFT tools such as Synopsys, Mentor Tessent, and Cadence Modus.
- Must-have: RTL and verification languages: Verilog/SystemVerilog; scripting with TCL, Perl, or Python.
- Must-have: Test coverage analysis and optimization experience to improve manufacturing yield and quality.
- Nice-to-have: Prior technical leadership or management experience (leading managers or supervising multiple teams).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with operating budgets, project financials, or program-level influence.
- Nice-to-have: Extensive industry experience (many roles prefer 15+ years overall).
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum experience varies by degree: Bachelor +8 years, Master +7 years, PhD +6 years. Preferred: Master's degree. (Degrees and field-of-study specified in the source.)
