SOC Design Verification Staff Engineer
QualcommJob Title
SOC Design Verification Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Lead design verification activities for ASIC/SoC blocks and subsystems, delivering high-performance, low-power IP and SoC implementations. Work within an ASIC/SoC verification team and collaborate with hardware, software, product, and program management to define and execute verification strategies.
Experience Level
Senior-level role. Qualcomm expects experienced engineers able to work independently and influence cross-functional technical decisions; industry preference is for candidates with multiple years of ASIC/SoC verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture-driven verification, implementation oversight, and cross-team collaboration.
- Define and implement verification plans for complex IP blocks and SoCs; develop architectures, circuit/logic specifications, and system simulations.
- Execute verification flows from RTL through synthesis/place-and-route and timing/power analysis; validate design correctness and performance.
- Use and extend EDA flows and tools (e.g., RTL-to-GDS, Virtuoso) to support design and verification activities.
- Develop and maintain verification environments, scripts, and automation; use scripting and programming to accelerate verification.
- Produce and review technical documentation for EDA/IP/ASIC projects; communicate technical status and tradeoffs to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware architecture, product, program management) to meet system requirements and delivery goals.
Requirements
Technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred for successful performance in this role.
- Must-have: Hands-on ASIC/SoC design verification, validation, or integration experience and practical knowledge of design verification methodologies.
- Must-have: Experience with RTL-based flows and familiarity with synthesis/place-and-route, timing and power analysis.
- Must-have: Proficiency with scripting and programming to build verification infrastructure and automation.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce technical documentation and present complex information.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with architecture and design tools, system-level architecture work, and EDA tools such as Virtuoso.
- Nice-to-have: Prior interaction with senior leadership and experience influencing cross-organizational technical decisions.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with C/C++ and algorithms relevant to system-level verification.
Education Requirements
Options accepted: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field (typically with 4+ years of relevant ASIC/SoC experience); OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field (typically with 3+ years experience); OR PhD in a related field (typically with 2+ years experience). Preferred fields include Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree is explicitly allowed.
