Job Title

SoC Design Verification Engineer (Up to Principal Level)

Role Summary

Work in SoC design verification to plan and execute verification for IPs, subsystems, and full SoCs. Deliver verification plans, develop and run testbenches and regressions, close coverage, debug failures, and prepare designs for pre-silicon release.

Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, integration, synthesis, physical design, firmware, emulation, and post-silicon teams across global engineering organizations.

Experience Level

Open across multiple levels from Engineer through Principal. Typical minimum: entry/mid DV roles expect ~3+ years; staff/principal roles expect senior experience (examples in posting: bachelor+8 years, master+7 years, PhD+6 years for higher-level roles).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include verification planning, test development, simulation, coverage closure, debug, and release readiness:

  • Translate product and block specifications into verification plans, test scenarios, functional coverage, and signoff criteria.
  • Develop and maintain SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, sequences, drivers, monitors, scoreboards, assertions, and reusable components.
  • Create directed, constrained-random, assertion-based, and coverage-driven tests for functional, corner-case, error, reset, power-state, security, performance, and low-power scenarios.
  • Verify RTL integration, interfaces, registers, interrupts, clocks, resets, power management, interconnect, coherency, and subsystem connectivity.
  • Run and debug simulation, regression, waveform analysis, lint, CDC/RDC, formal, emulation, FPGA, and gate-level flows as applicable.
  • Perform root-cause debug across RTL, testbench, configuration, generated collateral, tools, and environments.
  • Define, track, and close functional, code, assertion, toggle, and coverage metrics; identify gaps and improve stimulus quality.
  • Support emulation readiness, firmware bring-up, SoC integration testing, pre-silicon release, and post-silicon debug preparation.
  • Automate regressions, debug, and reporting using scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell, or similar).
  • Document verification plans, test results, coverage status, known limitations, waivers, and release recommendations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for verification roles (degrees summarized separately under Education Requirements).

  • Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog and UVM-based verification environments.
  • Experience in ASIC/SoC/IP/FPGA/hardware design verification, including simulation and regression execution.
  • Proven waveform debug and functional coverage analysis skills.
  • Solid understanding of digital design fundamentals (RTL, FSMs, protocols, clock/reset behavior, SoC architecture).
  • Scripting and automation experience (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with AMBA protocols (AXI/AHB/APB), interrupts, DMA, coherency, NoC/interconnect, formal verification, CDC/RDC analysis, emulation, FPGA prototyping, gate-level simulation, power-intent verification, coverage-closure and signoff processes, and commercial/internal EDA tools.
  • Nice-to-have for senior roles: technical leadership, methodology ownership, mentoring, and successful SoC delivery.

Education Requirements

Degrees: Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is stated as required; Master's and PhD are accepted/preferred in other sections. The posting lists two experience patterns: a general DV expectation of ~3+ years of relevant verification experience, and an alternate set of minimums for higher-level hires: Bachelor + 8+ years, Master + 7+ years, or PhD + 6+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where noted.
