SoC Design Verification Engineer
QualcommJob Title
SoC Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Work on pre‑silicon verification of complex SoCs, subsystems, and IP blocks. The role covers verification planning, developing and running testbenches/tests, simulation and coverage closure, debug, and preparing designs for pre‑silicon release.
Collaborate with architects, RTL designers, integration, synthesis, physical design, firmware, emulation, and post‑silicon teams across the global engineering organization.
Experience Level
Mid-level (typical requirement: 3+ years of relevant ASIC/SoC/hardware verification experience). The posting also defines responsibilities for Engineer through Principal levels.
Responsibilities
Execute and lead verification activities across IP, subsystem, and SoC scopes to achieve functional signoff and pre‑silicon readiness.
- Translate specifications into verification plans, test scenarios, functional coverage, and signoff criteria.
- Develop and maintain SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, sequences, drivers, monitors, scoreboards, assertions, and reusable verification components.
- Create directed, constrained‑random, assertion‑based, and coverage‑driven tests for functional, corner‑case, error, reset, power, security, and performance behaviors.
- Verify RTL integration, interfaces, registers, interrupts, clocks/resets, power‑management, interconnect/coherency, and subsystem connectivity.
- Run and debug simulation, regression, lint, CDC/RDC, formal, emulation, FPGA, and gate‑level verification flows as applicable.
- Analyze failures, perform root‑cause debug across RTL/testbench/tools/environments, and drive defect resolution with cross‑functional teams.
- Define, track, and close functional, code, assertion, toggle, and coverage metrics; identify verification gaps and improve stimulus quality.
- Support emulation readiness, firmware bring‑up, SoC integration testing, and post‑silicon debug preparation.
- Automate regression, debug, and reporting using scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell) and document verification artifacts and release recommendations.
Requirements
Core skills and experience required for successful execution of the role.
- 3+ years of relevant ASIC, SoC, IP, FPGA, or hardware design verification experience.
- Hands‑on experience with SystemVerilog and UVM‑based verification environments.
- Experience with simulation, regression execution, waveform debug, and functional coverage analysis.
- Understanding of digital design fundamentals: RTL, finite‑state machines, protocols, clock/reset behavior, and SoC architecture.
- Scripting/automation experience (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell or similar) to improve regression and debug productivity.
- Strong analytical, debugging, communication, and teamwork skills.
Nice‑to‑have:
- Experience verifying complex SoCs, processors, interconnect, memory systems, peripherals, security, or low‑power designs.
- Familiarity with AMBA protocols (AXI, AHB, APB), interrupts, DMA, coherency, registers, and NoC/interconnect behavior.
- Experience with formal verification, assertion‑based verification, CDC/RDC analysis, emulation, FPGA prototyping, gate‑level simulation, or power‑intent verification.
- Experience with coverage closure, verification signoff, test planning, release QA, and commercial or internal EDA tools.
- For senior/lead roles: demonstrated technical leadership, methodology ownership, mentoring, and successful SoC delivery.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree in those fields is preferred. (Source lists EE, CE, CS, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related fields.)
