SOC Design - Staff
Role Summary
Staff-level SOC Hardware Engineer responsible for planning, designing, optimizing, verifying and testing complex electronic systems and SOC features. Works with cross-functional teams to bring products through design, bring-up and production qualification.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff). Preferred experience is 8+ years in hardware engineering; minimum experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Lead and deliver complex hardware design and validation activities across SOC projects.
- Plan, design, verify and test digital/analog/RF/optical circuits, modules and subsystems for SOCs.
- Integrate complex features and implement designs optimized for power, performance and area.
- Perform simulations and analyses; validate designs with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
- Collaborate with verification, validation, software, systems and architecture teams to implement requirements and improve yield and test time.
- Characterize and evaluate manufacturing, reliability and materials; drive bring-up and production readiness.
- Create detailed technical documentation and present findings to stakeholders; provide technical guidance to team members.
Requirements
Key technical skills, hands-on experience and leadership abilities required or strongly preferred.
- Must-have: Several years of hands-on hardware engineering experience delivering complex designs and bringing products to production.
- Must-have: Practical experience with circuit design (digital, analog, or RF) and using schematic capture and circuit simulation tools.
- Must-have: Experience with lab and measurement instruments such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and RF tools.
- Must-have: Strong cross-functional collaboration, written and verbal communication, and ability to produce technical documentation.
- Must-have: Experience evaluating reliability, manufacturing implications, and identifying design compatibility or compliance issues.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: FPGA or DSP system experience, packaging and test-system knowledge, automation to improve yield/test time, and prior technical leadership or mentorship experience.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications specify one of the following combinations: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or a related field plus 4+ years hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 3+ years experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years experience. Preferred qualifications note a Master’s degree and 8+ years of hardware engineering experience.
