SoC Design Engineer - RTL/Logic
Intel CorporationJob Title
SoC Design Engineer - RTL/Logic
Role Summary
Join a front-end SoC design team responsible for RTL/logic development, IP integration, and validation for client System-on-Chip products. The role owns block-level RTL, collaborates on microarchitecture choices, and supports handoff to physical implementation and verification teams.
Work focuses on delivering correct, performant, and power-efficient logic for laptop and desktop SoCs within a hybrid on-site/off-site model.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting indicates minimum experience varying by degree (examples: MS with ~4+ years, BS with ~6+ years); preferred ranges in the posting extend up to ~10–12 years for some degree paths.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include design, integration, and quality assurance across RTL and SoC scope.
- Design and implement RTL for SoC blocks; write and maintain register-transfer level code and models.
- Participate in block architecture and microarchitecture definition.
- Integrate IP blocks and subsystems into full-chip SoC designs and validate integration at the SoC level.
- Perform RTL simulation, quality checks, and drive fixes for failing RTL tests.
- Apply optimization strategies to meet power, performance, area, and timing goals.
- Collaborate with IP providers and verification teams to ensure correct feature verification and smooth IP‑SoC handoff.
- Drive design integrity and compliance for handoff to physical implementation and validation teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills (minimums required for initial consideration are listed in the original posting; degree details are summarized under Education Requirements).
- Hands-on experience in silicon or VLSI design, including RTL development and microarchitecture work.
- Experience with verification and post-silicon testing workflows.
- Familiarity with power management flows and client micro-architecture topics such as memory ordering and coherency.
- Experience integrating IP at the SoC level and resolving integration issues.
- Understanding of timing, power, and area trade-offs and methods to achieve convergence.
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills; ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Nice-to-have: experience in front-end design/integration and scripting with Python, Perl, or other languages.
Education Requirements
Degrees listed in the posting include Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (posting indicates BS + ~6+ years typical) and Master of Science (MS) with ~4+ years typical. Indian degree equivalents (B.Tech, M.Tech) are also referenced with preferred experience ranges (e.g., B.Tech: ~7+ years up to ~12; M.Tech: ~5+ years up to ~10). Fields called out include Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering; the role expects relevant technical degrees in EE/CE or closely related disciplines.
