SoC Debug Engineer, Senior Staff

Role Summary

Work on SoC silicon validation and debug across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases for server, compute, and mobile chipsets. Partner with architects, designers, verification and software engineers, and customers to improve silicon quality.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Role requires extensive experience in pre-silicon and post-silicon enabling, bring-up, and embedded platform-level debug (expectation: 9+ years relevant experience).

Responsibilities

Lead platform-level bring-up and failure analysis across pre-Si and post-Si phases; create and drive debug strategies that accelerate root-cause and isolation of failing components.

• Lead bring-up, debug, and failure analysis at the embedded platform level in pre-silicon and post-silicon phases.
• Inspect RTL and use JTAG and silicon visibility to root-cause issues.
• Define and lead debug strategies and plans for partners to triage failures and isolate components, including PVT and marginality issues.
• Drive initiatives to accelerate platform-level debug and isolate failing system components.
• Perform real-time debugging and troubleshooting of server hardware (motherboards, processors, memory, storage, power, networking).
• Investigate manufacturing defects, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
• Serve as SysDebug lead to drive complex issues to root-cause.

• Must-have: 9+ years of experience with pre-silicon and post-silicon enabling, bring-up, and embedded platform failure analysis.
• Must-have: Experience with RTL inspection and low-level debug techniques.
• Must-have: Proven ability to lead debug efforts, develop/debug strategies, and isolate failing components to reach root-cause.
• Must-have: Debug low-level software and hardware issues; hands-on with JTAG and lab equipment (logic analyzer, oscilloscope, signal generator).
• Must-have: Experience driving SysDebug and coordinating cross-functional debug to closure.
• Nice-to-have: Strong programming/scripting (C, Assembly, Perl, Python).
• Nice-to-have: Understanding of power and performance; familiarity with TCU, PVT, Fmax, Vmin test methodology.
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of CPU and SoC architectures, server boot/reset scenarios, reboot stress debugging, and multi-die secure boot debug.

Education Requirements

Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering. Minimum qualifications accept: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with 6+ years experience; OR Master’s with 5+ years; OR PhD with 4+ years. Fields cited include Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and related technical disciplines; equivalent practical experience is considered.
