SoC Debug Engineer
QualcommJob Title
SoC Debug Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for bring-up, debugging and failure analysis of SoC embedded platforms in pre-silicon and post-silicon phases. Works within Silicon Validation alongside architects, designers, verification and software engineers to identify root causes and deliver practical debug solutions.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience: 5β8 years in pre-silicon and post-silicon platform bring-up, validation, integration, or related roles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Bring up, debug, and analyze failures at the embedded platform level in pre-Si and post-Si phases.
- Design and implement solutions to accelerate platform-level debug and isolate failing components.
- Create debug strategies and partner-facing plans to triage failures, including PVT and marginality issues.
- Automate and enable debug flows using Gen AI techniques and tools.
- Debug low-level software and hardware interactions; use debug interfaces and tools such as JTAG.
- Operate and interpret lab equipment: logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, and similar instruments.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred skills:
- 5β8 years of experience with pre-silicon and post-silicon enabling, bring-up, validation, or platform-level failure analysis (must-have).
- RTL inspection skills and basic RTL understanding (must-have).
- Hands-on experience with debug tools (JTAG) and lab equipment (logic analyzer, scope, signal generator) (must-have).
- Proven ability to diagnose and isolate low-level hardware/software issues (must-have).
- Experience applying Gen AI to automate or accelerate debug workflows (must-have).
- Familiarity with programming/scripting (C, Assembly, Perl, Python) (preferred).
- Understanding of power/performance basics and test methodologies such as TCU, PVT, Fmax, Vmin (preferred).
- Knowledge of CPU and SoC architectures (preferred).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field preferred (examples: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering). Posting allows alternatives: Bachelor's + 4+ years relevant experience, Master's + 3+ years, or PhD + 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted.
