Engineer II - Emulation
MicrochipJob Title
Engineer II - Emulation
Role Summary
The Architecture Co-Verification (ACOV) team enables hardware/firmware co-development and system-level co-verification for SoC devices using hardware emulators and FPGA-based prototyping. The role supports pre-silicon functional verification, HW/FW integration, performance testing, power analysis, and post-silicon investigations.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Engineer II). The posting indicates a minimum of approximately two years of relevant experience; the hiring criteria reference both BS and MS degree holders.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on enabling and executing system-level verification and supporting HW/FW development across the SoC lifecycle.
- Develop, run, and maintain emulation and FPGA prototyping environments for SoC verification.
- Collaborate with architects, hardware designers, firmware engineers, and verification teams to support HW/FW co-development.
- Perform pre-silicon functional co-verification and post-silicon validation, including performance and power analysis.
- Debug system-level failures, root-cause hardware and firmware issues, and investigate server/network infrastructure problems when needed.
- Create automation, scripts, and tools to accelerate verification and validation tasks; document results and test plans.
- Support protocol and I/O verification activities as required (e.g., PCIe, memory interfaces).
Requirements
Key technical and professional requirements. Education (degrees and fields) are summarized separately under Education Requirements.
Must-have:
- Experience with Linux development and debugging environments.
- Strong programming and scripting skills (Python, Tcl, C); familiarity with C/C++ embedded firmware development.
- Understanding of digital design fundamentals, RTL coding, simulation and debug methodologies.
- Familiarity with CPU architectures such as MIPS, ARM, or RISC-V.
- Strong analytical, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills; self-starter and organized team player.
- Experience troubleshooting server hardware and networking infrastructure.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with protocol validation/verification (PCIe, CXL, SAS/SATA, NVMe).
- Experience with DDR4/DDR5 memory technologies and computer system I/O hierarchies (I2C, SPI, eJTAG).
- Experience with FPGA-based verification/emulation platforms and test automation tools.
- Familiarity with front-end design, source control systems (Subversion, Git), and both Linux and Windows environments.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (the posting specifies BS/MS in these fields).
