SoC Audio Engineer, Platform Architecture
AppleJob Title
SoC Audio Engineer, Platform Architecture
Role Summary
Define and own audio subsystem architecture for Apple SoCs across multiple product lines. Collaborate with Silicon, Software, Hardware, and Firmware teams to size subsystems, optimize trade-offs between performance, power, and area, and carry architectures from concept through tape-out into shipping products.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Preferred candidates may have 10+ years of relevant industry experience; the role expects substantial SoC and audio architecture experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining architecture, roadmaps, modeling, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship.
- Define and own architecture specifications for audio subsystems across multiple SoC product lines.
- Author and maintain multi-generational technical roadmaps and align stakeholders.
- Perform performance and power modeling of audio workloads to determine subsystem sizing and partitioning.
- Collaborate with Silicon, Software, Hardware, and Firmware teams from concept through tape-out.
- Present architecture and performance study results to cross-functional and executive audiences.
- Mentor engineers and support onboarding and talent development within the team.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications and preferred skills; must-haves are required, others are beneficial.
- Must-have: Experience with SoC architecture principles.
- Must-have: Experience with SoC audio processing.
- Must-have: Proven ability to collaborate across silicon, software, hardware, and firmware teams.
- Nice-to-have: Experience defining architecture specs for audio, DSP, or signal-processing subsystems within an SoC.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of on-chip fabric protocols, memory systems, clocking/reset, and power management.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital signal processing algorithms and SoC power modeling (PPA optimization).
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of SoC audio interfaces (e.g., I2S, PDM, TDM, MIPI SWI3S) and hardware/software co-design (familiarity with RTL/SystemVerilog concepts).
- Nice-to-have: Strong interpersonal, leadership, and cross-organizational influence skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree is preferred (the posting cites Master's with 10+ years of relevant industry experience as preferred). The posting does not specify particular fields of study or state an explicit "equivalent experience" exception.
