Job Title

SMTS Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop operating-systems–level software, compilers, and network distribution software used in semiconductor operations. Work across product development lifecycles to deliver system software and drivers for AMD platforms.

The role spans requirements analysis, feature design, implementation, testing, documentation, and coordination with on-site and offshore teams to meet delivery schedules.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requires five (5) years of relevant engineering experience in the role or a closely related position. (See Education Requirements for alternative education/experience combination.)

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Research, design, implement, and test OS-level software, system software enhancements, and new product features.
  • Define operational specifications and analyze software requirements.
  • Drive technically significant projects and determine approaches to critical assignments with considerable autonomy.
  • Develop and maintain kernel components, embedded drivers, and platform software.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation, unit tests, and participate in code reviews.
  • Coordinate feature design and development across functional groups and with offshore teams.
  • Apply engineering principles and best practices to validation and delivery of AMD products.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in relevant engineering roles (see Experience Level).
  • Experience with SoC or system architecture.
  • Familiarity with product development cycles and release processes.
  • Knowledge of Linux or Windows internals and OS kernel & systems development.
  • Embedded driver development experience.
  • Proficiency with the GNU toolchain and standard development/debugging tools.
  • Experience writing unit tests, performing code reviews, and producing engineering documentation.

Education Requirements

Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in those fields plus seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the role or a closely related engineering position is acceptable. Foreign equivalents and equivalent experience combinations are recognized.
