Job Title

SMTS Software System Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and develop operating-systems-level software, compilers, and network/distribution software to support semiconductor operations and products. Build tools and infrastructure for electronic design, performance benchmarking, and platform integration.

Work independently on technically significant projects, troubleshoot and optimize code for CPU/GPU systems, and influence hardware compatibility and design decisions.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on software design, development, testing, and performance optimization for semiconductor systems.

  • Research, design, develop, and test OS-level software, compilers, and network distribution software for semiconductor operations.
  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software for product enhancements and new semiconductor products.
  • Develop tools and infrastructure for electronic design, operating systems, compilers, networks, and databases.
  • Determine hardware compatibility and provide input that influences hardware design.
  • Drive projects of significant technical importance with independent judgment on methods and evaluation criteria.
  • Apply engineering principles to design, development, and testing of AMD systems and products, including performance analysis and optimization.

Requirements

Minimum skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.

  • Approximately three (3) years of experience in the job offered or a closely related engineering role.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in the following technical areas:
    • System architecture
    • Running, analyzing, and interpreting system benchmarks
    • Programming in Python, C, or C++
    • Unix/Linux environments
    • CPU and GPU architecture and GPU programming
    • Machine learning and object-oriented design
    • Code optimization using GPU or software performance analysis
    • GNU toolchain and open source software development
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make technical decisions on methods and evaluation criteria.
  • Travel: No travel required.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in those fields plus five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the role or a closely related engineering role is acceptable.
