SMTS Software Development Engineer

Role Summary

Engineering role at Xilinx (an AMD company) to architect, design, and develop enterprise-grade build and release engineering systems that support semiconductor design and manufacturing workflows. The position focuses on OS-level software, compiler toolchains, distributed build systems, and CI/CD platforms used by large, distributed ASIC and layout teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level (3–7 years). Employer requires four (4) years of relevant experience with a Master’s degree, or six (6) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience with a Bachelor’s degree (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing and delivering scalable, reliable build and release infrastructure for large engineering organizations.

• Define and own end-to-end architecture for enterprise build, CI/CD, and release ecosystems.
• Design scalable, fault-tolerant CI/CD frameworks integrating OS internals, compiler toolchains, distributed compute clusters, artifact management, and secure supply-chain controls.
• Develop automation frameworks to orchestrate complex dependency graphs, parallel execution, dynamic resource allocation, and recovery mechanisms.
• Lead development of software delivery tooling that improves developer productivity and build reliability.
• Analyze system bottlenecks and reliability risks; design and implement performance and resiliency improvements.
• Collaborate with ASIC, verification, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to align software architecture with silicon roadmaps.
• Establish architectural standards and engineering best practices across teams and provide technical guidance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve critical issues that affect product quality, tape-out schedules, and time-to-market.

Requirements

• Experience with software build automation pipelines and release engineering for robust build systems.
• Experience architecting large-scale software build environments and distributed build infrastructure.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C#, or Python.
• Experience leading or mentoring development teams to deliver production-quality software.
• Experience developing scalable software delivery tooling to improve developer productivity.
• Familiarity with version control systems, including Perforce and Git.
• Experience with test automation and test frameworks.
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration platforms such as Jenkins and Buildkite.
• Experience with operating system development on Windows, Linux, or Android and with development tools (debuggers, profilers, GitHub, source-control workflows).

Education Requirements

Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field is required with four (4) years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in the same fields plus six (6) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the role or a closely related engineering role is acceptable. Employer accepts equivalent combinations of education and experience as noted.
