SMTS Silicon Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join AMD's I/O IP team to design host controller IP for next-generation high-speed interfaces (up to 40 Gb/s). The role focuses on RTL development, functional correctness, and creating reusable digital IP used across product lines.

Work involves technical decision-making, solving complex design problems, and mentoring junior engineers in a hybrid Hsinchu/Taipei environment.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting specifies at least 9 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree or 11 years with a Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Design and develop host controller IP according to next-generation I/O architecture requirements.
• Develop and maintain Verilog RTL for IP blocks.
• Ensure designs are functionally correct and reusable across product families.
• Analyze and resolve complex technical issues; provide effective solutions.
• Make technical decisions and lead design improvements.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• Extensive experience in Verilog RTL design for large digital IPs.
• Experience with high-speed I/O IP design and architectures, with a host controller focus.
• Proven ability to work independently, plan and meet project milestones.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience making technical design decisions; mentoring experience.

Nice-to-have:

• Knowledge of USB 3, USB4, or Thunderbolt.
• Familiarity with PCIe or AMBA protocols.
• Experience with AI-assisted design tools or flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The posting requires a minimum of 9 years' experience with a Master's degree or 11 years' experience with a Bachelor's degree.
