Job Title

SMTS Quantum Integration Engineer

Role Summary

The Quantum Integration Engineer (SMTS) is a senior individual contributor in the Quantum Product Development organization responsible for designing and delivering semiconductor integration solutions that enable scalable quantum computing systems.

This role leads integration architecture, defines experimental roadmaps, and executes development programs across device integration, BEOL interconnects, photonics, packaging, and cryogenic interfaces to move emerging quantum concepts toward manufacturable technology.

Experience Level

Senior - requires significant experience (the posting specifies 15+ years of relevant semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience).

Responsibilities

Lead technical integration efforts and coordinate cross-functional execution to mature quantum-related semiconductor technologies.

  • Define integration architectures for quantum platforms covering front-end devices, BEOL routing, photonic interfaces, advanced packaging, and cryogenic interfaces.
  • Develop and maintain technology roadmaps and experimental plans to support scalability and manufacturability.
  • Lead definition and execution of integrated process flows, process windows, and technology learning cycles using DOE and statistical analysis.
  • Establish integration checkpoints, performance metrics, and technical success criteria; evaluate tradeoffs among performance, manufacturability, reliability, yield, cost, and scalability.
  • Analyze electrical, physical, reliability, and metrology data; lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Translate system requirements into semiconductor technology requirements and development plans; collaborate with device engineering, process, manufacturing, reliability, modeling, packaging, and external partners.
  • Mentor junior engineers and MTS-level contributors; contribute to invention disclosures, publications, and patents.
  • Support customer and partner engagements, program reviews, and externally funded collaborations.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for effective performance in this role.

  • 15+ years of semiconductor process integration, technology development, or advanced manufacturing experience.
  • Proven expertise in semiconductor integration, process development, or technology commercialization.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical programs and major development initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills, experimental design experience (DOE), and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering and leadership audiences.
  • Experience with data analysis, yield learning techniques, and creating predictive models for technology maturation.
  • Commitment to operate in a safe manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Nice-to-have:

  • Project management and program execution skills; ability to navigate ambiguity.
  • Experience with BEOL technologies, photonics integration, advanced packaging, or heterogeneous integration.
  • Familiarity with quantum hardware architectures (ion traps, photonic systems), cryogenic electronics, MES systems, and transitioning research into manufacturing.
  • Experience with externally funded R&D programs and partnerships.

Education Requirements

Associates Degree, BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent practical experience.
