SMTS - Field Application Engineer (MIPS)
Role Summary
Customer-facing technical engineer responsible for enabling design wins by bridging customer requirements with MIPS product offerings (processor IP, software tools, and custom silicon solutions). The role focuses on pre-sales and early development phases and works closely with sales, product, and engineering teams.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience: 2β5 years in field/application engineering, applications engineering, design engineering, or related roles.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support and guidance to customers during evaluation and early integration of MIPS solutions. Key responsibilities include:
- Act as primary technical interface for customers during pre-sales and early development.
- Support evaluation and adoption of processor IP, software toolchains, and development environments.
- Advise on system architecture, performance/power/area trade-offs, and integration strategies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software technical issues during pre-sales engagements.
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams to address complex customer challenges.
- Provide technical input for proposals, RFIs, and customer presentations.
- Participate in customer workshops, demos, and industry events; engage with ecosystem partners.
- Translate customer requirements into actionable feedback for product and engineering teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful performance in this role:
- 2β5 years supporting customer engagements or design wins in semiconductor IP, SoC/ASIC development, or embedded systems.
- Experience with processor architectures, embedded software development (compilers, SDKs, OS), and system-level design and integration.
- Proven customer-facing communication and problem-solving skills; ability to operate independently in a field-based role.
- Hands-on debugging skills across hardware and software domains and ability to drive timely issue resolution.
- Ability to bridge technical depth with customer business needs and support pre-sales technical strategy.
- Fluent in English (written and verbal).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC-V ecosystem or CPU IP integration.
- Experience with custom silicon or SoC development flows.
- Understanding of functional safety standards or design requirements in aerospace & defense.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in an engineering discipline or similar, or equivalent practical experience.
