SMTS - Field Application Engineer
Role Summary
Customer-facing Field Application Engineer supporting APAC (Japan) customers. Responsible for driving design wins, providing tape-out support, and coordinating technical sales and post-design activities across GlobalFoundries teams.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 8 years of relevant semiconductor or IC design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical sales interface, design win acquisition, and tape-out execution.
- Act as single technical interface for customers and coordinate technical sales interactions.
- Drive technology demonstrations and strategy to acquire design wins.
- Develop customized technical presentations, proposals, and design solutions for customers.
- Identify product/service gaps and drive internal teams to close them.
- Coordinate tape-out readiness and logistics (export control, IP declarations, frame tables).
- Lead customer design reviews, mock tape-outs, and define MPW/test-chip requirements.
- Support post-tape-out activities including silicon verification, performance validation, and design margin analysis.
- Partner with account and sales managers to ensure smooth transition to Customer Engineering.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- Minimum 8 years in semiconductor technology or IC design roles.
- End-to-end experience from concept to silicon validation.
- Experience with IC product design and IP.
- Familiarity with design enablement flows and tools.
- Understanding of silicon processing and device physics.
- Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and project-management skills.
- Sales aptitude and customer-facing experience.
- Foundry experience is preferred.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent; equivalent practical experience accepted.
