SMTS Field Application Engineer

Role Summary

Serve as GlobalFoundries' customer-facing technical lead for China customers, driving design wins and providing tapeout support and post-tapeout coordination for successful silicon delivery.

Work with sales, product marketing, technology development, and customer engineering teams to identify customer requirements, propose solutions, and close technical gaps that affect design-win outcomes.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 8 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities cover pre-tapeout customer engagement, technical coordination, and tapeout execution.

• Own technology demonstrations and lead design-win acquisition strategy and process.
• Act as single technical interface to customers; coordinate all technical sales interactions.
• Prepare customized technical presentations and proposals to support customer evaluation.
• Assess and communicate strengths and limitations of GlobalFoundries technology internally and externally.
• Define customer requirements and propose GlobalFoundries design solutions and value propositions.
• Identify gaps in product/service offerings and drive internal resolution with product and technology teams.
• Coordinate tapeout readiness activities (export control, IP declarations, frame tables) and ensure tapeout logistics and execution.
• Lead customer design reviews and mock tapeouts; align on MPW/test-chip requirements prior to design and tapeout.
• Support Customer Engineering on post-tapeout activities, silicon functionality verification, and performance validation.
• Gather customer feedback, track competitive/market trends, and report findings to relevant internal teams.

Requirements

• Must-have: Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in semiconductor/technology or design roles; fluency in English and Mandarin (written and verbal); strong communication, presentation, analytical and project-management skills.
• Must-have: Exposure to IC product design, IP, and end-to-end flow from concept to silicon validation; familiarity with design enablement flows and tools.
• Nice-to-have: Prior experience working within or with a foundry; solid understanding of silicon processing and device physics; sales aptitude and customer-facing experience.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
