Job Title

SMTS - Field Application Engineer

Role Summary

Provide customer-facing technical leadership for APAC (Taiwan) customers to drive new design wins and support successful tape-outs and NPI using GlobalFoundries technologies. Coordinate internal teams (CAE, product marketing, technology development, sales) to ensure first-time-right designs and smooth post-design-win transitions.

Senior-level — minimum 10 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include driving design wins, coordinating tape-out activities, and providing technical support across the product lifecycle.

  • Drive technology demonstrations, evaluations and the design-win acquisition strategy.
  • Serve as the single technical interface to customers and coordinate all technical sales interactions.
  • Develop customized technical presentations and proposals to support customer evaluations.
  • Partner with CAE, account managers and customer engineers to solve problems through design-in and post-tape-out.
  • Lead customer design reviews and mock tape-outs; define MPW/test-chip requirements prior to tape-out.
  • Manage tape-out logistics and readiness (export control, IP declaration, frame tables) and resolve tape-out obstacles.
  • Coordinate silicon functionality verification, performance validation, and design-margin analysis.
  • Collect and drive closure of technical gaps; provide real-time customer feedback to product and technology teams.
  • Support post-design-win transition to customer engineering and meet design-win, tape-out and MPW goals.

  • Must-have: 10+ years in semiconductor industry with end-to-end experience from concept to silicon validation; exposure to IC product design and IP; working knowledge of design enablement flows and tools; solid understanding of silicon processing and device physics; strong analytical, project management, technical presentation and communication skills; sales aptitude and customer-facing experience.
  • Preferred: Prior experience in a foundry or closely with foundry processes; demonstrated success coordinating tape-out logistics and NPI activities.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. Related technical degrees or equivalent hands-on semiconductor experience are acceptable.
