ASIC Design Jobs, Level - Senior

Job Title

SMTS ASIC Digital Design

Role Summary

Join the Functional Safety & Cyber Security team within the IP, Software & Custom Silicon organization to lead hardware safety analysis and safety architecture for ARC MIPS processor IP and Custom Silicon SoC programs. You will own FMEDA/DFMEA/FTA activities for processor IP certified to ISO 26262, contribute RTL-level safety mechanisms, and support external assessments and customer reviews.

The role spans IP- and SoC-level safety analysis, fault injection planning, safety documentation, and maintaining traceability from safety requirements to verification evidence.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 8+ years of ASIC/SoC design or verification experience, with substantial functional safety experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for hardware safety analysis, safety work products, and defense of safety claims to customers and assessors.

  • Own hardware safety analysis for processor IP configurations: FMEDA, DFMEA, DFA and FTA through external assessment.
  • Perform SoC-level safety analysis for Custom Silicon programs, including system-level FMEDA and SoC safety concepts.
  • Analyze dependent failures and freedom from interference across IP boundaries within an SoC.
  • Derive and track safety metrics (SPFM, LFM, PMHF) and drive diagnostic coverage improvements with STL and verification teams.
  • Define and review RTL-level safety mechanisms (ECC, parity, lockstep, register protection, watchdog) and verify claimed diagnostic coverage.
  • Plan, run, and interpret fault injection campaigns and reconcile results with the FMEDA.
  • Produce and maintain safety artifacts: safety manual, safety analysis reports, safety case contributions, and assumptions of use.
  • Maintain traceability from safety requirements through design to verification evidence.
  • Support ISO 26262 assessments and respond to customer technical questions on safety architecture and analysis.
  • Perform activities in a safe and responsible manner and comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills.

  • 8+ years of ASIC/SoC design or verification experience with substantial functional safety exposure.
  • Practical understanding of FMEDA, DFMEA and DFA for complex digital IP.
  • Experience with SoC-level integration and system-level safety concepts.
  • Ability to read and analyze RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) and reason about microarchitecture (pipelines, caches, register files, memories).
  • Understanding of processor architecture and how safety mechanisms are implemented.
  • Familiarity with synthesis and DFT results as inputs to safety analysis (area back-annotation, test coverage).
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting abilities; excellent written and verbal communication; ability to manage parallel activities autonomously.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Functional safety certification or formal training (ISO 26262 / IEC 61508).
  • Experience as a SEooC supplier or integrating SEooC IP into an SoC safety concept.
  • Fault simulation tooling experience (e.g., VC Z01X) and scripting/automation (Python, TCL).
  • Experience with simulation and debug tools (VCS, Verdi); FPGA design flow.
  • Requirements management and safety traceability tooling (Jama).
  • Low-power design / UPF, ISO/SAE 21434 cybersecurity knowledge, experience with automotive tier-one customers, RISC-V architecture exposure.

Education Requirements

Master's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Functional safety certification or formal training (ISO 26262 / IEC 61508) is listed as preferred.
