Role Summary

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) supports U.S. Aerospace & Defense customers by assessing technical requirements, proposing suitable GlobalFoundries solutions, and driving opportunities from design win (DWIN) through tapeout.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with account management, product marketing, and technical teams to remove adoption barriers and convert opportunities to revenue.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires substantial prior experience; posting specifies a minimum of 15 years in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities focus on customer engagement, technical advocacy, and internal coordination to support IC product development and conversions to tapeout.

  • Engage customers to capture technical requirements for semiconductor IC product development.
  • Assess competitive landscape and articulate GF value propositions to customers.
  • Work with account managers, product marketing, and technical experts to produce application-specific technical presentations and proposals.
  • Merge technical and commercial terms with account teams to create design-winning proposals.
  • Identify and resolve technical or programmatic issues to convert DWINs into tapeouts.
  • Advocate internally for product or process improvements when competitive gaps are identified.
  • Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in all activities.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications and constraints for the role.

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in semiconductor design, tapeout, and process.
  • U.S. status requirement: applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government SECRET security clearance; candidates cannot have dual citizenship.
  • Working knowledge of IC chip design flows and EDA tools from architecture through performance characterization.
  • Technical program management, problem solving, ownership, teamwork, and strong communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Travel up to 20%, primarily domestic with some international travel.
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with Digital, Analog/Mixed-Signal, HV Power, eNVM, millimeter-wave, or silicon photonics IC product design.
  • SoC integration/design experience.
  • Demonstrated business development experience within the Defense Industrial Base or related government agencies.
  • Project management skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity and execute solutions.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field (for example, applied physics). Master's or PhD preferred. The posting allows equivalent practical experience where indicated.
