Job Title

SMTS

Role Summary

Manager of the Architecture and Hardware team in Micron's Storage and Memory Systems (SMS) Pathfinding group. Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for system-level architecture, hardware prototyping, and applied research for next-generation memory and storage technologies.

The role combines people management, technical leadership, external collaboration, and program execution to deliver prototypes and drive architectural direction for advanced memory and storage systems.

Experience Level

Senior. Candidates typically have extensive semiconductor design experience; SMTS-level candidates commonly have 15+ years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical leadership, team management, hands-on circuit development, and execution of complex design programs.

  • Manage and lead a multidisciplinary Architecture and Hardware engineering team.
  • Define system and circuit architecture for next-generation memory and storage products.
  • Design and optimize digital and analog circuits including memory arrays, control logic, datapaths, address decoding, and I/O circuitry.
  • Lead circuit development phases: modeling, simulation, verification, and silicon validation to meet performance, power, area, and quality targets.
  • Drive floor-planning, layout optimization, parasitic analysis, and tape-out activities.
  • Advance AI-assisted design, automation, and design-space exploration through collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Provide technical mentorship and foster cross-functional collaboration to deliver program objectives.
  • Coordinate external collaborations and manage program execution for prototypes and research projects.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Extensive knowledge of CMOS circuit design, device physics, state machine logic, and design verification methodologies.
  • Experience with Verilog modeling and simulation tools.
  • Experience with power delivery network (PDN) analysis.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Tcl, or Perl.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and experience managing complex circuit design projects.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with DDR5, LPDDR5/LPDDR6, GDDR6/7, or HBM3/HBM4 memory technologies.
  • Familiarity with FINESIM, HSPICE, or similar schematic entry and simulation tools.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-assisted design flows, agentic AI, or advanced design automation frameworks.
  • Experience mentoring engineers.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is stated; guidance in the source specifies MSEE with 10+ years, BSEE with 12+ years, or equivalent relevant semiconductor design experience. SMTS candidates typically have 15+ years. Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field is preferred.
