SiP Layout Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver laminate, substrate, interposer and PCB layouts for flip-chip packages, system-in-package (SiP) products, and module-based semiconductor solutions. Work with IC design, package engineering, and product teams to meet electrical, thermal, mechanical, and reliability requirements across multiple market segments.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires 5+ years of hands-on layout design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include:

• Develop detailed laminate, substrate, interposer, and PCB layouts for flip-chip, SiP, and module-based products.
• Design and optimize routing, power/ground planes, via structures, escape routing, interconnect schemes, and substrate stack-ups.
• Perform design rule checks, layout verification, and participate in design reviews to ensure compliance with package and assembly rules.
• Support layout feasibility studies, floor planning, package architecture selection, and design trade-off analysis.
• Generate and maintain layout databases, fabrication drawings, stack-up drawings, and design documentation.
• Manage multiple layout projects, create realistic schedules, track progress, and communicate status and risks to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in laminate, substrate, PCB, or advanced package layout design.
• Strong practical knowledge of layout principles: routing, stack-up design, power/ground plane design, via design, impedance control, creepage/clearance, and manufacturability constraints.
• Familiarity with package structures such as BGA, LGA, flip-chip, multi-die packages, and module-based products.
• Proficiency in Cadence Allegro and other CAD/layout tools.
• Understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, thermal, mechanical, and reliability considerations in layout design.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, meet schedules, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication in cross-functional/global teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
