Job Title

Simulation Engineer

Role Summary

Software Engineer on the Simulator team (new college grad) building and improving core simulation infrastructure for next-generation Wafer-Scale Engine (WSE) systems. Work spans functional and pipeline-accurate simulation to support hardware and software co-development.

The team provides simulators and tooling used by kernel developers, compiler/runtime teams, architects, and design verification engineers to validate correctness and analyze performance tradeoffs.

Experience Level

Entry-level (New college graduate). Suitable for candidates with minimal industry experience (typically 0–2 years).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain simulator infrastructure in C++ for next-generation WSE systems.
  • Contribute to functional simulation (architectural correctness, instruction behavior, memory semantics) and pipeline-accurate simulation (execution behavior and performance visibility).
  • Build features and tooling to improve developer visibility into correctness and performance.
  • Collaborate with Design Verification and architecture teams to align simulator behavior with hardware specifications and validate designs.
  • Design and maintain unit, integration, and regression test coverage for simulator quality.
  • Optimize simulator runtime performance, scalability, and usability for internal workflows.
  • Debug complex issues spanning simulator models, kernels, compiler/runtime interactions, and hardware assumptions.
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and continuous improvement of engineering processes.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Strong C++ programming skills and solid software engineering fundamentals.
  • Understanding of computer architecture concepts: instruction execution, memory systems, and microarchitecture basics.
  • Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with writing and maintaining unit, integration, and regression tests; attention to quality and automation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across software and hardware teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with architectural, functional, or performance modeling.
  • Experience with test automation, regression systems, and CI pipelines.
  • Experience with Python or other scripting for tooling and automation.
  • Exposure to parallel systems, accelerators, or ML/HPC workloads.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.
