Job Title

Silicon Validation Technician

Role Summary

The Silicon Validation Technician supports silicon characterization and validation by operating test equipment, collecting data, assisting engineers, and maintaining lab hardware. This is a hands-on role in a test lab environment that performs data collection and hardware support during off-shift hours.

The position works closely with test engineers to assemble and maintain test fixtures, execute test programs on ATE and evaluation boards, and help prepare characterization reports.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically requires 4+ years of related industry experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and typical shift expectations:

  • Operate ATE systems (e.g., Teradyne J750) and evaluation boards to collect silicon data.
  • Build, assemble, kit, and inventory evaluation board kits and test fixtures.
  • Perform majority of data collection during second/third shifts (afternoons, evenings, nights); initial training is 9am–5pm for two weeks before shifting to evening/night schedules (shifts may start between ~2pm–midnight or midnight–8am).
  • Assist engineers with data analysis and preparation of internal/external characterization reports.
  • Perform hardware modifications and repairs on boards, sockets, and fixtures (soldering, rework, fine-pitch work).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment; follow ESD and lab safety practices; keep proper documentation.
  • Support lab logistics including shipping/receiving of silicon samples, boards, and test hardware; may travel to client site as requested.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and work conditions:

  • 4+ years of related industry experience.
  • Strong debugging, rework, and soldering skills, including fine-pitch component work.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB concepts, schematic reading, and board-level troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with benchtop lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, DMMs) and handler/test systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision during off-shift operations.
  • Strong organizational skills to track hardware, samples, and test materials.
  • Availability for off-shift hours (weekends, evenings, nights) and ability to perform physical tasks in a test lab/ESD environment.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with Raspberry Pi kits and basic QA processes.
  • Good communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.

Education Requirements

College diploma or equivalent technical credential was specified. The posting pairs this credential with 4+ years of related industry experience; equivalent technical credential or comparable practical experience is acceptable. No specific field-of-study was mandated.
