Silicon Validation Manager
SynopsysJob Title
Silicon Validation Manager
Role Summary
Lead the silicon validation engineering team at Synopsys' Lisbon site, responsible for validation of high-speed analog IP (SerDes and other connectivity PHYs). You will manage lab operations, test execution, silicon debug, validation reporting, and cross-functional coordination with design and product teams.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 5+ years in silicon validation, test, or characterization of analog or mixed-signal integrated circuits, with prior people-management experience.
Responsibilities
Own validation activities and lab operations for multiple concurrent projects, and develop team capability and validation processes.
- Manage silicon validation operations, lab resources, equipment utilization, and test execution.
- Direct testing and characterization of SerDes implementations using oscilloscopes, BER testers, network analyzers, and precision measurement equipment.
- Oversee silicon debug, root-cause analysis, and provide technical guidance to design teams.
- Produce comprehensive validation reports documenting silicon performance and recommendations.
- Supervise design, fabrication, and bring-up of custom test boards and fixturing.
- Build and develop the validation team via mentorship, training, and performance management.
- Collaborate with analog/digital design, applications engineering, and product management to resolve technical issues.
- Maintain and improve lab infrastructure and test procedures to ensure consistent, reliable measurements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and management experience required to succeed in this role.
- 5+ years in silicon validation, test, or characterization of analog or mixed-signal ICs.
- Proven experience managing technical teams, including project planning, resource allocation, and engineer development.
- Strong foundation in analog IC design principles and ability to interpret silicon measurement data.
- Solid understanding of SerDes validation methodology: eye analysis, jitter characterization, equalization, and signal integrity.
- Working knowledge of high-speed physical-layer protocols such as USB, PCIe, or Ethernet.
- Proficiency in programming/scripting for test automation and data analysis (MATLAB, Python, or equivalent).
- Strong English communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with FPGA-based test systems and custom test logic development.
- Familiarity with Verilog or VHDL for custom test logic.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
