Job Title

Silicon Validation Intern (BS) - Summer 2027

Role Summary

The Rack Scale Switch Chip Validation team performs post-silicon validation and lab bring-up for high-performance switching silicon used in AI and cloud data center racks. As an intern you will support validation, debugging, and test automation under senior engineer guidance to help deliver reliable, high-bandwidth, low-latency switch products.

Expected base pay range: $28–$56 per hour. This position may require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; applicants may be subject to export license review.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current undergraduate students (internship experience; practical lab/coursework exposure expected).

Responsibilities

Support post-silicon validation and lab testing activities. Typical tasks include:

  • Develop, document, and execute test plans and test cases for switch chip validation.
  • Assist with lab-based silicon bring-up and run unit tests on hardware and firmware.
  • Run emulation and verification tests and help operate emulation/simulation environments.
  • Collect and analyze high-speed signal and link data (eye diagrams, jitter, BER) using lab equipment.
  • Debug silicon and hardware issues and troubleshoot switch performance and efficiency.
  • Use diagnostics, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and other tools to isolate root causes of failing tests.
  • Write and maintain scripts (for example Python) to automate test execution, data collection, and reporting.
  • Document test results, findings, and debug progress and present them to the team.

Requirements

Must-have skills and background:

  • Foundational understanding of digital logic, computer architecture, and high-speed I/O concepts (e.g., SerDes, PCIe, Ethernet).
  • Basic hands-on lab experience from coursework, research, or projects (hardware bring-up, testing, debug).
  • Familiarity with common lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, or BERTs.
  • Programming or scripting experience (Python, Perl, or similar).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication, and a willingness to learn.

Nice-to-have:

  • Coursework or project experience with PCIe, Ethernet, or other high-speed interfaces.
  • Exposure to PHY/PCS/MAC layers and signal integrity concepts (eye diagrams, jitter, BER).
  • Experience with emulation, simulation, or verification environments; ability to read board schematics and layouts.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with expected graduation between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028. No explicit alternative-equivalent-experience language provided.

Reasonable accommodation requests should be directed to Marvell HR Helpdesk.
