Job Title
Silicon Reliability Engineer
Role Summary
Own and execute silicon reliability qualification strategy for new and foundry technologies. Lead qualification planning, test execution, data analysis, risk assessment, and issue closure to ensure technologies meet NXP reliability requirements.
The role partners with technology, design, product, test, systems, and quality teams to de-risk technologies and products through qualification, validation of reliability checks, and corrective actions.
Experience Level
Mid-level β the role expects 5 or more years of experience in semiconductor reliability engineering, technology qualification, failure mechanisms, or reliability physics.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning, execution, analysis, cross-functional coordination, and documentation of reliability activities.
- Define and maintain qualification plans for process/device technologies (tests, sampling, conditions, acceptance criteria) based on risk assessment and ensure execution to plan.
- Participate in design reliability reviews and provide guidance on corrective actions and product stressing/testing.
- Drive and track reliability stress testing and data analysis (intrinsic wear-out, latent/extrinsic defects, margin assessment) and produce clear conclusions and reports.
- For foundry technologies, review and verify foundry qualification/reliability data against NXP requirements; identify gaps and drive closure actions.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional discussions with technology development, process integration, design, product/test engineering, systems engineering, modeling, failure analysis, and quality.
- Support investigation of reliability-related escapes or anomalies: root-cause, containment, corrective actions, and incorporation of lessons learned into future plans.
- Ensure reliability documentation is complete, traceable, and stored per agreed record expectations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviours for successful performance in this role.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor reliability engineering, technology qualification, or reliability physics.
- Strong knowledge of semiconductor device and reliability physics, reliability modeling, and relevant mathematics.
- Experience with reliability data analysis and statistics; ability to draw clear conclusions from stress-test data.
- Working knowledge of circuit design, product stressing, and device development in Digital, Mixed-Signal, RF and/or High-Voltage domains.
- Experience interacting with foundries and verifying foundry-provided qualification data.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication and presentation skills; ability to work in international, multidisciplinary teams.
- Independent, self-motivated, flexible, able to multi-task and drive corrective actions to closure.
Education Requirements
MSc or PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics Science, or a related technical field.
