Ethernet IP Design Application Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Ethernet Centre of Excellence as a technical lead supporting Ethernet IP customers and internal teams. The role focuses on taking designs from prototype to production, resolving complex issues, validating performance and protocol compliance, and improving IP quality and usability.

Experience Level

Mid-level — typically 5–7 years of professional experience in Ethernet or related networking domains.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on bring-up, validation, customer support, and cross-team collaboration.

• Lead design bring-up and validation for Ethernet IPs across speeds (TSE, multirate PHY, 10G/25G/40G/50G/100G) including AN/LT and IEEE 1588 PTP features.
• Serve as primary technical interface for customers: debug issues, optimize performance, and drive resolutions.
• Develop technical collateral: user guides, reference designs, demos, and validation tools.
• Collaborate with Design, Validation, Product Engineering, and Sales to reproduce problems, perform root-cause analysis, and validate protocol compliance and performance.
• Provide actionable feedback to improve IP quality and customer experience.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

• Hands-on programming in one or more: VHDL, Verilog, C/C++, Python, Perl, TCL.
• Experience with FPGA-based design and development and validation flows.
• Strong foundation in digital logic and circuit design.
• Practical exposure to Networking/Ethernet protocols and architectures.
• Customer-facing experience: debugging with customers and communicating technical findings.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Typical experience expectations: Bachelor’s with 7+ years or Master’s with 5+ years; source also lists 5–7 years in minimum qualifications.
