Job Title

Silicon Photonics Engineer

Role Summary

Design and implement next-generation silicon photonic integrated circuits with emphasis on complex switching circuits. Work spans concept, electromagnetic simulation, physical layout, tapeout support, and design verification within foundry process constraints.

Collaborate across device, hardware, and systems teams and produce documentation and verification artifacts for production tapeouts. PsiQuantum will only contact candidates from official company email addresses; report suspicious activity to recruiting@psiquantum.com.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Role expects approximately 5 years of relevant work or academic research experience in integrated photonics.

Responsibilities

Deliver photonic designs and tapeout support and resolve technical issues across components and systems.

  • Collaborate with device, hardware, and system teams to develop photonic systems and components.
  • Generate device concepts, perform electromagnetic and optical simulations, and translate results into manufacturable layouts.
  • Support foundry tapeouts: device design, design-of-experiments (DoE), layout, design verification, and PDK-related work.
  • Develop documentation and verification artifacts required for tapeouts.
  • Investigate failures and perform quantitative root-cause analysis; propose and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide multidisciplinary support during integration and system-level testing for complex switching circuits.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.

  • Approximately 5 years of relevant work or academic research experience in integrated photonics.
  • Strong computational and analytical skills applied to photonic device design and performance evaluation.
  • In-depth knowledge of photonic devices, performance metrics, and testing techniques.
  • Experience with commercial photonic simulation tools (e.g., Lumerical suite).
  • Photonic layout experience using tools such as IPKISS, gdsfactory, or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience with Python for scientific applications and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Experience supporting foundry interactions, tapeout workflows, or PDK development is highly desirable.

Education Requirements

PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Physics (the posting states "PhD or equivalent").
