Silicon Photonics Design Engineer - Biophotonics
Role Summary
Develop integrated photonic devices for sensing applications in Apple products. Work within an optical science team and collaborate cross-functionally to design, simulate, and characterize silicon photonic components and photonic integrated circuits.
Experience Level
Mid-level - 3+ years relevant industry experience preferred.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and simulate silicon photonic components (passive and active) for SOI platforms.
- Develop and model MUX/DeMUX components and photonic circuits.
- Perform circuit-level simulation, high-order mode mitigation, and polarization management.
- Plan and execute optical measurement and hands-on device characterization.
- Analyze experimental data using Python, MATLAB, JMP or similar tools.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate components into sensor concepts and products.
- Document designs, simulation results, and test plans.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills:
- Must-have: Experience with simulation and modeling of photonic components.
- Nice-to-have: Deep understanding of optoelectronics, photonics, and semiconductor devices.
- Nice-to-have: Extensive design and modeling experience on SOI platforms; experience designing MUX/DeMUX.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with circuit simulation, mode mitigation, polarization management, and optical measurement techniques.
- Nice-to-have: Strong programming skills and proficiency in statistical data analysis (Python, MATLAB, JMP or similar).
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent fields is required or acceptable as equivalent practical experience. Master’s or PhD in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent fields preferred.
