Silicon Performance Validation and Characterization Intern

Role Summary

As a Platform Architecture Graduate Intern in the Network and Edge hardware architecture group within Intel's Data Center Group, you will support silicon performance analysis for network and AI workloads, perform performance modeling and architectural trade-off analyses, and help plan subsystem integration across power, memory, and I/O. You will work with architects and design engineers to improve platform scalability and reliability.

This internship provides hands-on experience with performance analysis tools and techniques used in data-center platform development.

Experience Level

Entry-level intern (student). Typical experience expected in this role: ~3+ months exposure to computer architecture, ~6+ months programming in C/C++ and Python, and ~3+ months familiarity with networking stacks.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist with silicon performance analysis for network and AI workloads.
  • Use analysis tools and techniques for development and technology pathfinding.
  • Support performance modeling and architectural trade-off evaluations.
  • Contribute to integration planning across power, memory, analog, and I/O subsystems.
  • Collaborate with architects and design engineers to drive platform scalability and reliability.
  • Participate in hands-on projects and document findings for the team.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred skills:

Must-have:

  • Practical experience with computer architecture (approximately 3+ months).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and Python (approximately 6+ months).
  • Familiarity with computer networking stacks and protocols (approximately 3+ months).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Linux and Intel-processor–based platforms.
  • Experience with AI software or frameworks.
  • Knowledge of hardware architecture fundamentals, power management, and system-level integration.
  • Experience with network software such as DPDK or VPP.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree and currently working on a Master's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
