Role Summary
This internship contributes to the engineering effort that takes photonic computing from research to manufacturable hardware and data-center integration. Interns work with teams across silicon photonics, product engineering, analog and digital design, laser development, systems integration, verification, physical design, and firmware.
The role provides hands-on engineering experience supporting design, simulation, testing, and lab validation of photonic and mixed-signal hardware within a hybrid workplace model.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship). Intended for current students or recent graduates.
Responsibilities
Interns will support one or more engineering areas depending on background and placement:
- Design and simulation of optical components and photonic interconnects.
- Develop and execute lab tests to validate silicon photonics products and prototypes.
- Assist in analog and mixed-signal circuit design and verification for photonic drivers and receivers.
- Characterize and integrate laser sources used in photonic interconnects.
- Support board bring-up, lab validation, and system integration activities.
- Work on RTL development, modeling of photonics circuitry, and control algorithms for photonic SoCs.
- Build testbenches and run simulations for design verification.
- Contribute to synthesis, timing analysis, floor planning, place-and-route, or physical verification using industry EDA tools.
- Help implement low-level firmware, drivers, laser control algorithms, and telemetry.
Requirements

- Hands-on engineering experience via coursework, capstone projects, research labs, or prior internships.
- Familiarity with at least one relevant tool or environment such as SolidWorks, ANSYS, ADS, or Cadence.
- Practical lab skills or experience with hardware bring-up and validation are strongly preferred.
- Comfortable asking questions, collaborating across disciplines, and working in fast-paced teams.
- Ability to work in a hybrid model and be available to work at an office several times per week.
- Capacity to comply with U.S. export control laws and related requirements.
Education Requirements
Pursuing or recently completed a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
