Silicon Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and verify silicon features for AMD graphics processor IP. The role focuses on planning, building, and executing verification tests to ensure delivered RTL meets functional, firmware, and driver requirements.

Work with architects, hardware and firmware engineers across sites to close functional bugs and meet coverage targets.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include feature verification, test development, and cross-team debugging.

  • Collaborate with architects, hardware, and firmware engineers to define verification scope.
  • Create test plans covering hardware, firmware, and software driver interactions.
  • Estimate effort for test and environment development.
  • Develop directed and constrained-random verification tests and UVM testbenches.
  • Debug test failures, determine root cause, and coordinate fixes with RTL and firmware teams.
  • Monitor functional and code coverage metrics and modify tests to meet targets.
  • Improve simulation efficiency and verification infrastructure where needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical verification experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficient in IP-level ASIC verification and debugging using simulation tools.
  • Strong experience with UVM testbenches and SystemVerilog.
  • Experienced in Verilog, SystemVerilog, C, and C++.
  • Comfortable working in Linux and Windows environments.
  • Ability to debug RTL and firmware issues and collaborate across time zones.
  • Scripting experience (shell, Makefile); familiarity with Perl or Ruby is a plus.
  • Experience developing verification frameworks and automating workflows in distributed compute environments.
  • Exposure to SystemC/TLM, simulation acceleration, or HLS tools is beneficial.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience is an asset.
  • Prior exposure to video codec or multimedia solutions is desirable.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
