Silicon Design Engineer
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
Silicon Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead the application of AI/ML to Physical Design flows to improve performance, power, area (PPA), quality of results (QoR), and design convergence from RTL to GDSII. Partner with Physical Design, IP, SoC, architecture, and global CAD teams to define and deploy scalable automation and AI-driven methodologies.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically 10+ years of experience in semiconductor design methodology, CAD, or Physical Design.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify, define, and prioritize AI/ML opportunities across synthesis, place & route, full-chip planning, timing closure, and low-power implementation.
- Lead development, validation, and deployment of AI-powered CAD solutions that optimize PPA and engineering productivity.
- Partner with Physical Design, IP, SoC, and architecture teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable automation and methodologies.
- Collaborate with global CAD teams to establish a unified AI strategy and promote technology sharing and consistent deployment.
- Provide technical leadership for AI infrastructure, data pipelines, model development, workflow integration, and deployment frameworks.
- Evaluate emerging AI and EDA technologies and drive adoption of best-in-class solutions.
- Mentor and influence engineers across organizations and contribute to technical growth of the engineering community.
- Measure and report the impact of deployed AI solutions on productivity, design quality, cycle time, and execution efficiency.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in semiconductor design methodology, CAD, or Physical Design with strong expertise in one or more implementation domains (synthesis, place & route, timing closure, floorplanning, or low-power methodologies).
- Proven experience driving RTL-to-GDSII implementation flows and resolving complex PPA, runtime, scalability, and convergence challenges.
- Strong programming and automation skills (Python, Tcl, Shell) and a track record of developing and deploying production-quality CAD solutions.
- Experience collaborating across global CAD, IP, SoC, and design teams with demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; experience delivering technical briefings and mentoring engineers.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML, large language models, agent-based systems, or advanced data analytics applied to EDA or design automation is highly desirable.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
