Job Title
Silicon Design Engineer - Core Debug
Role Summary
Join AMD's silicon design team as an early-career Core Debug Engineer focused on pre-silicon verification and debug of next-generation high-performance microprocessor designs and related IPs. You will work with Design Verification and RTL engineers to find and resolve functional and architectural bugs and help drive verification convergence.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career. The posting targets engineers at the start of their careers and describes onboarding and growth milestones within the first year.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include verification, debugging, and contributing to testbench and automation efforts:
- Perform pre-silicon verification of microprocessor designs and related IP blocks.
- Apply digital design theory to model and verify complex hardware/RTL components.
- Debug directed and random stimulus to identify and isolate design bugs against architectural specifications.
- Develop and maintain testbench components and automation scripts to improve verification efficiency.
- Collaborate with RTL designers to diagnose and fix complex logic issues and drive convergence to milestones.
- Onboarding milestones: within 3 months - integrate with team and begin debugging directed tests; within 6 months - take ownership of verification tasks and debug random stimulus; within 12 months - independently drive verification convergence for assigned IP.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and preferred experience are listed below.
- Foundational knowledge of computer architecture, processor pipelines, and memory hierarchies.
- Hands-on experience with Hardware Description Languages (Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL) from projects or internships.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for hardware modeling or testbench development.
- Familiarity with hardware verification methodologies (simulation, debug, coverage); experience with formal methods is a plus.
- Experience in Unix/Linux environments and comfortable using scripting languages (Python, Perl, Ruby, Bash) for automation.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in English and collaborate across teams.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with industry EDA simulation/verification tools (e.g., Synopsys VCS, Cadence Xcelium, Siemens/Mentor Questa, ModelSim, Vivado).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is highly desired.
