Signal Integrity Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
Signal Integrity Engineer
Role Summary
Design, simulate, and optimize signal integrity solutions for high-speed platforms, PCBs, and packages to meet performance and reliability targets. Work within the Data Center Group to define electrical specifications, characterize interconnects, and support platform-level integration and industry-standardization efforts.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical experience expectations in the posting: Bachelor's +3 years, Master's +2 years, or PhD with no prior professional experience.
Responsibilities
Accountabilities include modeling, measurement, and documentation to enable platform-level signal integrity.
- Develop and optimize signal integrity solutions for high-speed platforms, boards, and packages.
- Perform detailed electromagnetic and circuit simulations to inform physical implementation and design trade-offs.
- Design and characterize test structures and correlate simulations with measurements using high-speed test equipment.
- Define signal integrity rules, produce characterization reports, and provide guidance for platform documentation.
- Collaborate with IP, SoC integration, and PCB/layout teams to meet platform-level requirements.
- Contribute to electrical specifications and participate in establishing industry standards for next-generation interfaces.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred attributes listed separately.
- Must-have: Proficiency with electromagnetic simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, or ADS and experience analyzing jitter, crosstalk, and attenuation.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with high-speed measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, and time-domain reflectometers (TDR).
- Must-have: Familiarity with PCB/package design and layout tools (e.g., Cadence, Mentor Graphics) and layout optimization strategies.
- Must-have: Ability to design test structures and correlate measured data with simulation results.
- Nice-to-have: Experience contributing to industry standards and defining platform-level electrical specifications.
- Nice-to-have: Strong analytical problem-solving and effective cross-functional communication skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in a related field (no prior professional experience required). Fields of study: Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related technical disciplines.
