Job Title
Sign Off — Staff Engineer, Solutions Engineering
Role Summary
Staff Engineer in Arm's Solutions Engineering group responsible for implementation and sign-off of Arm IP and custom SoCs. Define and deploy implementation methodologies, work with RTL and physical design teams, and enable partners to improve quality of results (power, performance, area).
Experience Level
Senior — typically requires 8+ years of relevant experience in ASIC implementation and physical design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include implementation, analysis and methodology development for Arm IP and SoCs.
- Synthesis, physical design and implementation of CPU cores, system interconnect and other Arm IP.
- Analyze timing, area and power to improve IP quality of results.
- Develop and deploy new implementation methodologies and flows to improve efficiency and results.
- Support detailed implementation analysis and data-mining methods for sign-off and optimization.
- Collaborate with RTL design teams and physical IP teams to drive analysis and optimization.
- Convert R&D concepts into practical implementation solutions for production flows.
- Enable and support partners to achieve target quality of results across designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years of proven experience in ASIC implementation, physical design, STA and timing closure.
- Strong experience with structured clock tree synthesis, PDN analysis, DFM and physical verification.
- Working knowledge of the complete IC design flow from RTL through GDSII.
- Experience across top- and block-level synthesis, floorplanning, place-and-route, CTS, logical and physical optimization, timing closure and power analysis flows.
- Proven programming and scripting skills (examples: Tcl, Perl, R); ability to automate and data-mine implementation results.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience promoting new silicon implementation techniques across teams.
Nice-to-have
- Familiarity with Arm-based SoC architectures and Arm IP.
- Experience with additional programming, scripting and presentation languages (sh, csh, make, C, C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML, Python, Ruby).
- Experience with low-power design techniques (power gating, voltage/frequency scaling).
- Experience with Verilog RTL design and ATPG/production testing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or other relevant technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
