SI/PI Intern
EtchedJob Title
SI/PI Intern
Role Summary
Support design and validation of high-performance AI accelerator systems by analyzing high-speed interfaces, extracting channel models, and improving signal and power integrity across package, PCB, ASIC, and multi-board platforms.
12-week paid, in-person internship based in San Jose with direct mentorship and hands-on lab work.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current undergraduate or graduate students.
Responsibilities
Primary tasks include analysis, simulation, measurement, and cross-team collaboration.
- Perform channel analysis for PCIe, Ethernet, and other high-speed SerDes links; extract and validate S-parameter models and generate compliance reports.
- Build and validate 3D EM models (e.g., HFSS) and develop board/package channel models from ECAD databases.
- Correlate simulation results with laboratory measurements (VNA, TDR, scopes) and support mixed package-board simulations.
- Identify root causes of signal degradation and propose PCB, package, or routing improvements; contribute to SI design guidelines.
- Develop and maintain automated workflows for SI simulation, data analysis, and report generation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and proven or demonstrable experience:
- Coursework or project experience in signal integrity, electromagnetics, RF/microwave, or high-speed digital design.
- Understanding of transmission line theory, S-parameters, impedance discontinuities, PCB stackups, and high-speed routing fundamentals.
- Familiarity with SI simulation tools or willingness to learn (HFSS, SIwave, ADS, CST, or similar).
- Ability to work with ECAD outputs and Touchstone/channel metric files; familiarity with Allegro/APD/ODB++/IPC2581 is a plus.
- Basic scripting for automation and data analysis (Python preferred).
- Strong analytical debugging skills and effective written and verbal communication for cross-functional collaboration.
Education Requirements
Progress toward a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
