Short Term 2027 Hardware Design Verification Engineering Intern / Co-Op

Role Summary

Internship position on AMD's hardware design verification team focused on testing and validating high-end machine intelligence products. Work directly with engineers to develop and execute verification plans, simulation flows, and system-level validation.

This is a full-time student position (37.5 hrs/week) with hybrid or onsite attendance in Markham, Ontario. Multiple term options available (4- or 8-month assignments across Winter, Summer, and Fall 2027).

Experience Level

Entry-level intern / co-op position for currently enrolled students. No specific years of professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Support verification and validation activities across simulation and system-level testing. Typical assignments include:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and execute performance verification test plans and simulation test cases.
  • Write and maintain scripts for test automation and resource tracking (Perl, Python, shell).
  • Work on regression flows and tooling involving Perl/Python, MySQL, PHP as needed.
  • Review and recommend improvements to tools and processes to increase simulation performance and team efficiency.
  • Debug and improve simulation test cases and RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) models.
  • Build test platforms and perform system-level hardware/software testing and production validation.

Requirements

Technical skills required or strongly recommended for successful performance in the role.

  • Proficiency with scripting and programming (Python, Perl, C/C++, shell).
  • Familiarity with Verilog and SystemVerilog for verification tasks.
  • Understanding of digital systems, computer organization, and fundamentals of logic design (FSMs, timing, registers, flops).
  • Experience with Linux/Unix and Windows development and debugging environments.
  • Ability to build and configure PCs, install OS/drivers, and perform basic network/driver troubleshooting (useful for system-level testing).
  • Nice-to-have: UVM experience, exposure to MySQL/PHP-based flows, knowledge of CPU/APU architecture, and understanding of analog/transistor device behavior.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Canadian university Bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. The posting is for intern/co-op student roles (undergraduate level); other general marketing language referenced graduate/PhD students but the specific candidate requirement is enrollment in a Bachelor's program.
