Role Summary
Hands-on hardware design intern/co-op supporting physical implementation, RTL and verification for AMD machine-intelligence ASIC products. You will work with design engineers on physical design verification, memory interface simulation and chip-to-chip interconnect tasks.
This is a short-term full-time student role in Markham that provides practical ASIC and verification experience on production-oriented projects.

Entry-level internship / co-op for enrolled students. No specific years of professional experience required.
Responsibilities
The intern will join a hardware design team and contribute to implementation, verification and analysis tasks across the physical and RTL domains.
- Work full time (37.5 hrs/week) during the assigned co-op/intern term. Available terms include Winter, Summer, Fall with 4- or 8-month options in 2027.
- Collaborate with design engineers on physical design verification and implementation for ASICs.
- Perform memory-interface simulation (e.g., GDDR7, HBM, UCIE) and related validation.
- Contribute to discrete and embedded hardware products and chip-to-chip interconnect work.
- Participate in RTL design and development using Verilog.
- Synthesis with timing-driven placement and design-for-power (DFP) activities.
- Support floorplanning, power/clock distribution, block/chip place & route, EM/IR analysis, static timing analysis and timing closure.
- Perform logical-equivalence checks, RTL clocking analysis, static power analysis and design-for-test (DFT) tasks as assigned.
- Develop test libraries and verification models using SystemVerilog/UVM and C++ as part of training and assigned work.
Requirements
Technical skills and tools expected or recommended for successful contribution. Education specifics are listed separately below.
- Must-have (recommended): Fundamentals of digital/logic circuits and VLSI; experience with Verilog or VHDL; familiarity with Linux/Unix; basic scripting (Python, Shell, TCL) and familiarity with RTL/synthesis concepts.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM, C/C++, MATLAB; physical design process (floorplanning, P&R, timing closure, EM/IR); memory interface experience (GDDR7, HBM, UCIE); semiconductor device physics; ASIC design and DFT; web/back-end (Ruby on Rails, MySQL) exposure.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Canada-based university program. The posting specifically requests candidates in a Bachelor's program majoring in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
