Job Title

Embedded Firmware / FPGA Engineer

Role Summary

Develop embedded firmware and FPGA logic for high-performance embedded systems on a small engineering team based in Waterford, MI. Work spans bare-metal, RTOS, and Linux systems and includes both firmware and hardware/FPGA responsibilities.

Experience Level

Entry-level (0–3 years) as listed in the posting.

Responsibilities

Primary day-to-day responsibilities include firmware and FPGA development, verification, and cross-discipline collaboration.

  • Implement embedded firmware in C++ and Python for bare-metal, RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS/Zephyr), and Linux environments.
  • Design and implement FPGA logic in VHDL and Verilog targeting Xilinx/AMD SoCs (Zynq, Ultrascale+, Versal).
  • Develop and maintain verification testbenches and simulation-based validation (e.g., VUnit, cocotb).
  • Integrate and validate high-speed interfaces and buses (AXI, PCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, SerDes, SPI/I2C/UART, USB, SD).
  • Work on multiple concurrent projects, balancing quick-turn and long-term development tasks.
  • Collaborate directly with other engineers in a flat organization and contribute to CI and firmware test suites.

Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Below are key technical requirements and desirable skills.

  • Must-have: U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must-have: Practical experience developing embedded firmware in C++ on bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux.
  • Must-have: Experience with FPGA development (VHDL or Verilog) and familiarity with AMD/Xilinx SoCs (Zynq family preferred).
  • Must-have: Proficiency with version control (Git) and Linux-based development.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with interface protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, PCIe, USB, SD, Ethernet) and high-speed serial links (JESD204, SerDes).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience implementing AXI bus interfaces, microcontrollers (ARM/STM32/ESP32), and FPGA verification frameworks (VUnit, cocotb).

Education Requirements

Not specified.
