Job Title
Server Firmware Architect
Role Summary
Design and implement low-level firmware for RISC-V server platforms, including application-processor BIOS/UEFI, M-mode firmware (OpenSBI), platform microcontroller firmware, and BMC environments. Collaborate with system software, validation, hardware architects, and standards groups to integrate firmware with silicon designs and upstream open-source projects.
Experience Level
Senior level. The role expects substantial firmware architecture and implementation experience for server-class platforms.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering firmware components, integrating with system hardware, and supporting validation and standards work.
- Architect, develop, and maintain TianoCore/EDK-II BIOS and related UEFI components.
- Develop and integrate M-mode firmware such as OpenSBI for RISC-V systems.
- Implement and maintain platform microcontroller (BMC/MCU) firmware for reference designs.
- Write and debug ACPI tables and AML code; integrate ACPI, UEFI, and devicetree.
- Debug firmware and platform software on FPGA and emulation platforms with system validation teams.
- Collaborate with hardware designers and standards bodies to improve platform/system specifications.
- Review and author technical specifications and design documents.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining EDK-II/TianoCore-based firmware.
- Experience writing and debugging ACPI tables and AML code.
- Practical experience with ACPI, UEFI, and devicetree.
- Experience with DMTF manageability standards (e.g., IPMI/Redfish) or similar manageability frameworks.
- Experience developing bare-metal microcontroller firmware.
- Experience developing and debugging software on FPGA and emulation platforms.
- Strong track record of writing clean, maintainable C code.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with the RISC-V architecture and ecosystem.
- Experience with OpenBMC or other BMC software environments.
- Experience with Rust, system power management, PCIe, virtualization, or hardware debuggers.
- Experience working with hardware RTL engineers and standards groups.
Education Requirements
