Job Title

Server CPU SoC Architect

Role Summary

Design and define CPU and SoC architecture for server and edge products, targeting performance, power, frequency, and area goals. Work on architecture specifications, feasibility tradeoffs, performance and power modeling, and cross-functional execution with design, verification, and validation teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical hire has 4+ years of relevant CPU/SoC architecture experience; strong candidates may have 8+ years for more advanced responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Accountable for end-to-end CPU/SoC architecture definition and validation across product lifecycles.

  • Define and document modular, scalable architecture specifications aligned with hardware and software requirements.
  • Explore new architectural approaches and features to meet performance, power, and area targets.
  • Perform feasibility studies and trade-off analyses, including instruction and ISA considerations for new workloads.
  • Model CPU performance and power, analyze bottlenecks, and recommend architectural improvements.
  • Develop test plans, simulation infrastructure, and statistical analysis for benchmarking and feature validation.
  • Collaborate with architecture, design, verification, and validation teams to deliver optimized CPU solutions.
  • Influence cross-functional roadmaps and define technology targets for future CPU strategies.

Requirements

Core technical and experience requirements; degree-related items are summarized separately under Education Requirements.

  • Minimum: 4+ years hands-on experience in architecture definition, modeling, or CPU architecture fundamentals.
  • Minimum: 4+ years experience in SoC architecture and development methodologies.
  • Experience with performance and power modeling, bottleneck analysis, and optimization for CPU workloads.
  • Familiarity with Fabric/Interconnect, PCIe/CXL, coherency protocols, cores/ISA, or accelerators.
  • Experience developing testing infrastructure, simulations, and statistical analysis for CPU features.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with ISA development and implementation; demonstrated leadership on advanced CPU technology (8+ years).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (typical minimum) OR Master's or PhD in a related technical field. The posting presents degree/experience tradeoffs: Bachelor's + ~4 years, Master’s + ~3 years, or PhD + ~1 year of relevant CPU architecture experience. Equivalent practical experience, internships, or related coursework/research may be acceptable.
